What can we customize?

  • Type of items: We specialize in silk loungewear, lingerie, beddings and accessories, but our tailors have decades of experience creating custom dresses, pants, tops and jackets as well. 
  • Fabric: We usually work with silk, which is a challenging fabric to work with. If you have a favourite fabric such as cotton, linen or wool, we can work with those too.
  • Colours and patterns: We have a colour book featuring 90+ colours in silk. If you are looking for a solid colour that is not in our colour book, or a specific pattern, feel free to message us at info@softstrokessilk.com and we’ll do a search for you.

Do I need to use your design, or can I send you my design?

  • You can either adjust elements based on our designs (example: replace a sleeveless design with cap sleeves) or send us your designs. We have helped thousands of customers create items based on their own design, from replicating an old lace slip dress their grandmother wore for her wedding, to creating a pair of silk-wrapped volleyball pads for a fashion show. Bring it on! 
  • Note: Changing designs or sending us your own designs may incur additional charges.

How long does it take to ship a custom order?

  • Custom orders usually take 4-6 weeks to ship. Custom silk scarves take 6-8 weeks to ship. If you need them urgently, we may be able to expedite the production process with an additional fee. Please message us at info@softstrokessilk.com.

How do I place a custom order?

  • If you are placing a custom order using our design, simply add the item to cart. The difference between our ready-to-ship items and custom items: custom items have “custom” in the product name. Then put your colour choice (the last few images in the custom product listing are our colour books) and measurements in the comments box when checking out.
  • If you are making additional changes to the item, including changing the style, looking for a colour that is not in our colour book, using a different fabric, please message us at info@softstrokessilk.com and we will build a custom listing for you to purchase.

Can I return or exchange my custom order?

  • Custom orders cannot be exchanged or returned. However, if there is an issue with your order, please message us at info@softstrokessilk.com. If we made a mistake (example: you ordered black and we sent white), we can re-make the item for you.

How do I measure myself?

  • We require different measurements depending on the item you choose. This is noted in the item description. 
  • Please measure using a tape measure. If you don’t have one, an easy alternative is to measure yourself using a thread, then measure the thread using a ruler. The tape should be snug but not uncomfortably tight.
  • If you are buying lingerie or loungewear, we recommend measuring without any clothes on. If you are buying blouses, then keep the bra on.

I’m allergic to synthetic fabric or spandex. Could you make a set without these?

  • Pure silk doesn’t include any synthetic materials.
  • The hook-and-clasp set we use on our bralettes is synthetic. To avoid that, we can make bralettes with front opening using stainless steel clip-on buttons, bralettes with bands that you can tie in the back, bralettes with silk-wrapped buttons (like blouse buttons) or pull-on bralettes.
  • We can replace synthetic threads with cotton threads.
  • Our elastics are completely wrapped in silk. However, with an extra charge, we can replace spandex elastic with natural rubber elastic.

What are some common issues with custom orders?

  • Colour: We did our best to make sure our colour book is photographed accurately; however, colours can look different under different lighting conditions and with different computer monitors. You can purchase our sample colour books here. (hyperlink to colour book listing)
  • Panty height: A good to have measurement for panties if you are specific about how high you want your panties to go. We recommend measuring a panty you currently own from bottom of the crotch to the top hem. This panty has to be non-stretchy as silk charmeuse has little stretch.
  • Panty leg opening width: If you feel like your panties are often too tight on your thigh, you can provide your preferred leg opening width. To measure, take a non-stretchy panty that fits you, stretch the leg opening straight (but don’t stretch the elastic if there is one) and measure the straight line.
  • Bralette strap length: A good to have measurements for those who often feel the bra straps are too long or too short. We recommend measuring the distance between: the dip between your collarbone and where your bra band usually ends (under-bust).
  • Bralette bottom band: Under-bust measurement is measured by situating the tape directly underneath your breasts where the band of the bra would go. If you like a tighter or more relaxed fit, please let us know.
  • Head circumference: This is for bonnets. Surround your head with the tape measure, where you want the bonnet elastic to be touching your head.

Can I place a bulk order with customized items?

  • We have customized for brick-and-mortar stores and other brands. Feel free to send a message at info@softstrokessilk.com with details of your order including quantity, style, colour, fabric and size and we’ll provide a price quote. We can have your brand label sewn to the items for an extra charge.

How do custom silk scarves work?

  • Custom silk scarves take 6-8 weeks to ship. We could expedite this process with an additional fee, but the production time won’t be shorter than 2 weeks.
  • Please share a high-resolution version of the image you’d like to print with us. The image can be in jpg, png or pdf format. Feel free to send to or share with: info@softstrokessilk.com
  • We could work on different sizes, including sizes not listed in the size options. Please message us at info@softstrokessilk.com for a quote.

I have a pillow of an irregular size. Could you make a pillowcase?

  • Yes, we have made pillowcases of irregular sizes before. Please share a picture of your pillow with us, and we’ll let you know which measurements are needed.
  • If the size of your pillowcase is not listed in our custom pillowcase listing, please message at info@softstrokessilk.com and we’ll give you a price quote.

Can I have custom embroidery on my custom order?

  • We currently only have custom hand embroidery available. Silk is very delicate and we’ve tried machine embroidery before, but there is a risk of the fabric being ripped.
  • Hand embroidery adds an extra two weeks to your production time. If you are interested in symbols or patterns, please message at info@softstrokessilk.com us for a quote.
